I was close to the sleeping in finish line, when I heard a light tapping on my bedroom door. I thought it was soft enough that I could ignore it, but the tapping continued. I thought I heard a whiny "Maaaaaawma" but I wasn't sure. Finally I gave in. "Open the door. What do you want?" I whispered, as Izzy was still snoozing, nestled up next to me. If I could get this issue resolved quickly and quietly, I could have maybe 10-20 more minutes of sleep. In Mommy World, that's a lot. So...

I am so glad it's finally Friday. I am ready to sleep in tomorrow. I wonder if I'll get to? My sleep- nemesis , Izzy, is not a fan of the 10 am wake up. She is so happy and squirmy in the morning, though, it's impossible to be mad at her. Tonight we're having a family TV night and watching Cartoon Network. The theme this week is aliens, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is going to feature Cheese as an alien. If you haven't watched FHFIF, you should. Cheese is awesome. "I have ...

The Director of Army Staff has proclaimed that henceforth, in all Army correspondence, the word "family" will be capitalized. From the current ACS/My Army Life Too newsletter: "...in recognition of the fact that Army Families are a key component of readiness, and shoulder a great burden of sacrifice, supporting their Soldier and often enduring long periods of separation from their loved ones, effective immediately, the word "Families" will be capitalized in all Army correspondence." "So...

Here's a little snack the boys and I made: It didn't turn out as cool as it should have, but it was still a pretty neat snack. It's orange jello poured into a greased glove and set. Then you cut the glove away and use red jello or food coloring for blood. Well, orange and lemon jello mixed together might have yielded a more realistic color, and I'm not sure how I was supposed to get the jello out of the glove without destroying the hand. The blood didn't quite work out...

I turned the TV because I planned to watch The Holiday on DVD. A breaking news report was being run on FOX...a presidential speech. I just want people to know that the president, and the Army commanders, and the political pundits, and congress DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME. When they tell you what makes it "easier on our troops and their families" and when they tell you what "we owe to our troops and their families"...it is SPIN. When they announced the across-the-board deployment extensions,...

Yesterday I answered my door and found a slovenly-looking young man in his early teens staring back at me. I didn't know this kid, so I expected: a) Wrong house or Can I wash your dirty car/mow your overgrown yard/sell you overpriced candy (any of these are good options) Instead, he looked at me with his dead fish eyes, stammered and then said, "My mom lives over there (he nods his head backwards), and she's trying to raise money for cancer. Umm, for poor people with cancer. ...

Ok, so let's pretend you have a kid.  Let's call him "X".  And let's say he's almost 10 years old.  Next let's pretend that Santa Claus brought him a $250 Nintendo Wii for Christmas and X has this fairly expensive gaming console is in his room, attached to his very own (cheap) TV. Then let's say X proceeds to not treat his remote (wiimote?) not so lovingly, leaving it tossed about in his room when he is not using it.  Next let's pretend that X's daddy who is on a 15 m...

What insane woman would take two boys and a baby girl camping all by herself?  What insane woman would forget toothbrushes, Cub Scout handbooks, and chairs? What insane woman would try to fit a partially inflated full size mattress, a suitcase, a cooler, a duffel bag, a mini swing, a backpack, 3 pillows, one 9 year old, one 6 year old, one 4.999999 month old, and one XL 28 year old in a small $30 tent?  What insane woman would come Saturday afternoon instead of Sunday morni...

Orian (kind of) stayed home from school today since he is not well and possibly contagious (got sent home sick from school yesterday for harfing green stuff up into his hand...ewww), although he acts like he feels perfectly fine. I wanted to get a haircut since I hadn't had one since well before Izzy was born, and I needed to go to Wal-Mart for various items which I had carefully written down in green marker on a stolen piece of notebook paper.  Orian had been playing a video game wh...

I am making a mix tape (CD) for Adrian with sappy love song and songs that make me think of him/us.  I am having the hardest time rounding out my list.  I hear songs all the time that make me think of him, but just trying to sit here and remember what they all are is really difficult.  So I am open to suggestions. Give me your love song ideas, please! So far I have: Can't Take My Eyes Off You -- Muse Right Here Waiting -- Staind Glycerine -- Bush The Scientist -- Co...

Orian is a funny little guy.  He has very picky tastes, but he loves food.  SPAM is one of his favorites.  I realize it's completely unhealthy, but he loves it and it's a Hawaiian staple. SPAM is meant to be sliced and pan-fried, so that's what I do with it (left-overs are good diced and thrown in with some rice and an egg for poor man's fried rice).  So my little guy had his SPAM and then in the midst of his snack, came into the living room to inform me that he had a ...

I feel so much guilt right now.  I think I may have done something really bad. I woke Orian up this morning at 7 am.  I made sure he was awake (this was after waking up his brother).  I told him to get dressed and come downstairs for breakfast.  When I got downstairs I changed and dressed the baby, drank a glass of OJ/water, made 2 bowls of cereal and put them on the dining room table, and sat down with my laptop and nursed the baby while checking my email and JU and a...

I'm finding myself so very easily annoyed.  Even with people I typically like, but *very* annoyed with those I don't. It's like I'm in a bad mood and it just won't go away.  I don't like being patronized.  Being encouraged pisses me off.  I am so freaking jealous of people with simple problems like 5 lbs to lose or a husband who does a poor job of diapering the baby. I realize everyone has a right to complain and further that just because someone goes through something ...
