I went to the grocery store today...yay!...and I tried to get more fruits and veggies, so hopefully that will round out my diet a bit.

Breakfast:

1 4" pancake (proud of myself for not putting syrup on it!): 54 cal
3 small canned (in light syrup) pears: 60 cal
3 cups of coffee with Splenda and 1 c. skim milk: 80

Supper:

12 pc. sushi maki (rice, nori, cream cheese, avocado, had pollock in it as well, but I poked that stuff out): 480 cal

5 glasses of water

I haven't done it yet, but I plan to have 8 strawberries (with Splenda): 50 cal

Total Calories: 724"

Tex,

Have you heard about putting your body in starvation mode? That is what you are doing. Unless you drop your calorie intake to less than about 200 calories a day from what it was when you started this....then wean it down as the weight goes, your body will go into starvation mode.

That means when you do eat ANYTHING your body is gonna try to store it as fat. I am worried about you eating like, or not eating like this. Are you taking a multi-vitamin? And fiber is soooooo important because it "moves" everything you don't want in, out!

Have you considered cutting out white flour and replacing it with a grain like whole wheat? (Or having oatmeal instead of pancakes) White pastas, breads, just about anything white (except Splenda) will cause your insulin levels to rise which isn't good for weight loss. Plus whole grains digest more slowly making you feel full longer....

If you eat 6 small meals a day, a protein and a carb (fruit or veg) each the size of your palm it will keep your insulin levels steady AND will not make your body think it is starving, so it will start burning fat more effectively. At two of those meals add an extra vegetable so you will be getting all the nutrients you need for the day.

I am not butting in, I am seriously worried about this "diet" you are on. You may lose the weight, but once you start eating like a normal person again, it will come back and bring a few friends. Your body will protect itself from starvation by packing on the pounds when you do decide to start eating again.

I am sure you know all this already, but its worth repeating.

Take care of yourself.

I'm actually pretty informed about fitness and nutrition. I do know about starvation mode (the effects of which can damage one's metabolism for quite a while after the starvation-style eating habits have been improved).

Yes, yes, I know this.

I switch to whole grains when I can. My family doesn't like a lot of that stuff, and we can't afford to buy two sets of everything, so I sneak it in when I can.

I'm not really a six meals a day kind of girl. It's an excellent idea, and I'm glad it works for you, but it's not the kind of eating that I can stick with.

I'm not sure why you put diet in quotations. Any diet, regardless of how it is formatted, works when you expend more calories than you take in. There are tons of different ways to accomplish this. I'm simply cutting back on my calorie intake. Nothing controversial about that.

My target is 1,200 calories. That's how much my body needs to fuel itself without wrecking my metabolism, and will allow for a modest (up to about 2 lbs) weight loss each week.

I was busy yesterday, and not particularly hungry, so I missed my mark. I'm not intentionally starving myself...I like to eat. And in fact, after I posted that last night, haha, I ate a slice of my husband's pizza (400 calories, daily total = 1,124).

No need to worry. I understand dieting and nutrition quite well (better than my eating habits let on), and I'm not interested in slimming down at the expense of my health.
