Burn Photos from "my pictures" to a CD?
Published on August 6, 2005 By Texas Wahine In Personal Computing
This is probably an exceedingly stupid question, but here goes...

I have tons of pics on my computer that I'd like to burn to a disk so that I'll have them in case my computer ever crashes.

I may have even done this before, I can't remember, but I'm too lazy to play around and try to figure out how to do it.

A really simple, step-by-step, for-dummies type answer would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you're using XP, there is link on 'Picture Tasks' that says 'Copy All Items to CD'. It's really difficult though...

Thanks...hehe...I am using XP...where would I find the link for Picture Tasks (admitting openly that I am a dummy)?

You can find it on the left hand toolbar.

Don't ask me, the last time I burned a computer disc, I used a quarter of a bottle of lighter fluid and my wife wouldn't even talk to me for two hours. Maybe if I hadn't scratched dirty words on the CD and then jumped up and down on the pieces.........stupid incompatible operating systems.

I do not see comments #3 through #5, so not sure if your question was answered.

You can read my mini tutorial here Link

If you read the bottom third of the tutorial, you will see the "RECORDING USING XP PACKET WRITING APPLET" portion. It will walk you through setting up the drive to enable recording, then with My Computer open, just select a batch of images and drag them on top of the drive icon.

Click the balloon that pops up to show the files ready to write.

The tutorial should be fairly clear, combined with my explanation here.

Remember that CD's only hold 700MB of information, so keeping the total image files to a size of 680 - 690 MB will prevent bad writes.

Texas, if you insert a blank CD into your drive, a little pop up should happen asking what you want to do with it. Choose "Open writable CD folder using Windows Explorer"

Now you should have an open folder window there. Drag all of your pictures into it. When you're done, on the left should be a thing that says "Write these files to CD." Click that puppy.

Remember that your CD can only hold somewhere in the neighborhood of 700MB, so if we're talking a TON of pictures, you might have to use multiple disks.

Good luck

Hahhahahhahaa...what's with you and fire?

Eh, are you going to change your screen name in a few days when you become a free man?

Thank you! I was trying to figure it out yesterday (looking for Hank's elusive link), and my husband said, "You have to put a CD in first." D'oh!

From there, everything worked just like you described above. It was a bit tedious, but worked out just fine!

Remember that CD's only hold 700MB of information, so keeping the total image files to a size of 680 - 690 MB will prevent bad writes.

Hehe...I learned that the hard way. I put ALL my pics up to be copied and then had to manually remove hundreds of them to do the first CD. I got everything on 3 CDs...several hours later, of course, hahaha.

Hehe...yeah, it was a TON of pictures. Oops.

Thanks so much for the info.

clwoods: Thanks.

The other suggestions are good, but you might also want to give Picasa a try. It's available from Google for free. Just click the "More" link on the Google page and scroll to the bottom.

It does a really nice job of organizing pics and you can create cd's very easily.
