Izzy is now officially walking. She has been taking a single step and then standing still or plopping down for some time, but last night she got brave and began taking several consecutive steps.

Below is a short clip of her walking. She took much longer "walks" but this is best video I got. Mommy is not quick enough with the camera. She is 8 months, 6 days old. Isn't she amazing?

YES, SHE'S AMAZING!!

I've only heard of one other baby who was walking at 8 months. I know comparisons are pointless, but our li'l April who's almost 9 months old just started to crawl last week! She's also been pulling up to standing any chance she gets...I think you said Izzy was doing that a few months ago.

Amazing!

Thanks, Angela! I wish I had caught one of her better walks, but this will have to do for now. I am just amazed. My middle child walked at 9 months, and I thought that was nuts.

It is really easy to get caught up in the comparisons, and of course I am proud of her, but honestly, in the grand scheme of things when a child hits any of those baby milestones is pretty much meaningless.

It sounds like April is doing great. How is big brother liking her? My middle child has now decided that sister is big enough that he doesn't have to be careful around her or give her any special consideration. Gah.

So the honeymoon is over, eh? Well there's nothing like a couple of older brothers to give Izzy some serious doses of reality. She'll be a tough, smart girl!

Our little Michael has been really careful with April up until fairly recently. I think we're all over the "Ooh, watch out for the fragile baby!" stage, but sometimes when Michael gets to rough-housing he's not as careful as he used to be. I'm always right there to intervene just in case a giant lego falls on her head (one example from yesterday) or something.

Except to you guys! That's cool!

Joshua's prolly not gonna walk for awhile. But then, he's got sisters who cater to his every whim! Of ours, Des walked at the youngest age (10 months).

She's so cute! The problem is then they start climbing and getting into everything. The next thing you know they can reach the counter tops and open doors. Then you remember with fondness the days you could sit them down and they stayed where you put them. I just think they get too big too fast. I like them when they're tiny, sweet, helpless newborns. They just don't stay that way long enough. Then you have to find other people's babies to play with like me.

As far as comparisons, I do know what you mean. I had an annoying neighbor who acted like it was a competition over who did what first. Of course, that was because her kid did everything first. I was like make sure to put that on his resume. I'm sure he'll get into Harvard and become President now. Was that too bitchy?

Wow! That's early! It's because she has her two older siblings too. Amanda walked at 9mths and the doctor said it was because of her two older siblings.

Go Izzy, go Izzy....now you're gonna get even more exercise Tex, start running!!

Angela: Yup, that's a good way of putting it! The honeymoon IS OVER. LOL.

It sounds like you understand exactly what I mean.

Gid: Haha. The way it works is: If YOUR child does it early, it's really special and important, but if YOUR child does it later, it's not really a milestone anyways. Haha.

Seriously, though, I know it doesn't matter when it happens, but it's always exciting when it does happen.

That's adorable about your girls carrying the little guy around. I'll bet they enjoy the heck out of him!

Orian likes to carry Izzy, but he carries her like a freakin sack of potatoes. She does not like it.

Usually she is happily playing and he picks her up and walks around for a minute until she gets squirmy and then comes up to me and says, "Where do you want me to put this?" Haha.

LW: Thanks.

Loca: Haha, I think I would have preferred that she wait so she wouldn't get into as much and so that her daddy could see her first steps, but it's still really exciting.

I went to a get together last night and there was another baby her age (almost exactly her age) and he was all mellow and chill. She was all over the place and getting into stuff.

Poor me.

"Make sure to put that on his resume"...hahaha. That's brilliant.

FS: I definitely think it's because she watches her brothers! She is highly motivated to find ways to cause the most trouble possible, haha!

*cheers* * doing the happy dance*

Soon she will be doing the happy dance! She is so precious in that little black and white outfit! Hopefully her rough and tumble brothers won't ruin her too much!
