Boy Scouts, Cheerleaders, and Tantrums

A little comment about what a smartass my oldest is growing up to be (I'm so proud!): At the Cub Scouts Crossover ceremony (where they get to switch over the next rank up), he kept snickering when the Cubmaster talked about the path to Eagle (scout). Apparently he kept hearing the path to EVIL. Haha.

I love the pictures you share and the tales you tell about your kids, Tex. They're precious. And you're a damn good mom.

Well, we all know that those homo-phobic Scouts are just pure evil (at least according to the ACLU and others that help to deny scouts the use of public facilities because of their anti-gay and other somewhat religious leanings...)

poison: LOL. I love crying pictures. Haha.

Marcie: Thanks. What a nice thing to say!

Terp: I had a neighbor tell me he didn't like scouting because they let gay people in now and because someone in his scout troop looked at him wrong during a tick check or something.

I'm not quite that paranoid. I think CS is good for the kids (and at this point in the game I'm with them at all their outings anyways).

The religious thing is kind of tricky. My husband and I are agnostic. We are not opposed to our kids being exposed to religion, but we would rather them not be indoctrinated.

Cub Scouts doesn't promote any one religion over another, but it does promote religion or a general belief in a creator or god that we owe gratitude and service to.

Everything below Webelo seems to allow a child to opt-out (although there are obvious references to god in the CS pledge, the Pledge of Allegiance, and some of their fun songs). I am still reading, but it looks like the opting out may not be available for my older child.

I will leave it up to him how he wants to handle the religious requirements.

I know your comment was a joke, haha, but those are my thoughts.

LW: Thanks.

Hey, I was thinking of giving you a call this week. When is a good time?

And FYI: The reason why the boys are dressed so funny is because they had a water slide and sprinkler and water guns and all that after the ceremony. They are wearing their swim-trunks and pack t-shirts because mommy is retarded and didn't realize they would need to be in their Class A uniforms. D'oh!

And to go along with the theme, here she is as Wonder Woman (lasso not included):

Big kudos for fessing up. (Yes, I had noticed and, no, I wasn't going to mention it.) You score a lot of points just for having them in the program, IMO. I wish I could do the same for my boys...
