House Pics

I'm not sure if I've posted them before, so here are the photos of our house from the real estate listings:

Back of house:

My camera has not been working, and I just got it to sort of work today (still has same problem, to lesser extent...it shuts itself off and says replace batteries for no reason).  Since I got it working, I ran through snapping pics.  I didn't pick up beforehand, sorry!!  Try to picture things without the mess!!

A couple things to keep in mind:

A)  We're poor.  We have to furnish with what we have or very inexpensive items.  Things don't match or aren't decorated ideally. I can't help that.  I'm just trying to make things look decent for as little $ as I can.

We still have red carpet.  It will be replaced in 2 and 1/2 to 3 weeks, but it's still there for now.  We try to mentally block it out, haha, but it's not easy to do with carpet that red!

Entrance (just to show off the swag I got):

(I spilled candlewax on the wall.  Oh, well, it needed repainting anyways!)

New chandelier:

Dining room:

I know the chandelier is not centered.  Can't do anything about that right now. And my chairs don't match.  And about a million other "off" details.  I got to make do with what I have!

The kitchen (after after-school-snack...IGNORE MESS!):

Living room (still no curtains yet!):

Boys' playroom (the black entertainment center got demolished in the move...so nothing matches.  It's a hodge podge of things in there...you can't see them, but they have a neat air hockey table and a large closet with great shelving for games and toys):

Boys' bedroom (again, not so matchy...they have tons of books but they're in the garage, so the book case is kind of bare right now...ha, and they trashed the room so it is messy!):

Izzy's room...well, part of it.  I have a valance to put up on the window but I need a curtain rod.  Still have to find bedding that I like for her room.

Oh, I forgot the guest bathroom.  I will hit that one up later.  My bathroom and bedroom are not close to being finished.  I still have tons of boxes in my bedroom and we need to paint in there and in our bathroom.  The mudroom is finished and organized but it's not very exciting.  Ha.  The kids bathroom isn't quite finished yet.  I still need to paint and switch out the toilet seat in there.

But it's a start.  Still tons of work to do.

Ok, found one, but its blurry...all I have though.

Notice the rings with clips...you can literally use any fabric (curtains, sheets, whatever) to clip in pleats and hold it on place.

Tova: Haha, I can't say I've never thrown something out there, just wanted whoever to agree with me since I had my mind made up anyway. LOL.

But I sincerely do want to learn and I am grateful that you're willing to share all this with me. And as I said before, you don't come across as critical or pushy, and I appreciate this. I know you know your stuff.

I love the idea of using sheets to do the curtains...sounds like it would save $$ and would still work for throw pillows.

Thank you SO much for the drawings! I can see exactly what you mean now. Thank you for going to the effort to do that for me. And I love the red crayon. It's definitely a nice touch. LOL.

One of the things on my list is to change out that front light to a hanging light. It's not that expensive to do, but since Adrian just did two electric type things I'm giving him a break for a few days, haha. The light that's in there now looks exactly like a boob. Look at the picture. It totally does. Ha!

I will have to look up what finials are, haha. I don't even know!

I have a question for you though...I have a nice shower curtain rod that can be stretched out to go almost all the way across (like 2" short, I checked!). I know I could paint it black on the gold parts and it is nice and decorative. Is this something that could work or is it just crazy? Haha.

I also have two larger nice curtain rods that are not quite long enough on their own. One is black and the other was black but was painted white for Izzy's room at our old house. Could those be painted and somehow spliced together?

I am so ghetto, I know!

Thanks for adding the pic, btw. Being able to see the stuff you're describing really helps me. I am not very spacial-minded, so sometimes I have a hard time picturing things properly.

Chaos Manager: Thanks!

The sheets as curtains idea is so cool!

Finials are the things at the end of the rod.

It's actually a great idea IF it was long enough. Remember you should try to take the rod all the way across from wall to foyer because you will need the room when the curtains are pulled back. If you mean two inches short of that distance then yeah, great, use it.

Seriously though, the stairway hand rail is cheap. I think I got mine for $12-$15.

Do you like navy blue? I have some navy blue tab top curtains, (not lined), you could use the tabs instead of rings, or remove the tabs and use rings with clips. I think (without digging them out I can't be sure) I have at least 6 probably 8 panels. That'd be enough to do your living room and dining room, but you will have to buy fabric for the bottoms because they are full length, but not long enough for what you need. They look snappy with white sheers. I love navy blue and white together.

If you think you can use them, let me know and I'll pop them in the mail.

If they are wood, then a double tipped screw will put them together. If they're metal I'm not sure...for the size of your living room...you should try to get a good thick rod, or it will look a little weird.

Are the squares you painted in the dining room navy blue? I can't tell...if so I am sending you these curtains.

Looks like you guys have done a lot with the place already! It always takes us a while of living somewhere to really start decorating much. We usually do the kids rooms right away though. Their rooms are more fun!

thanks for sharing the pics! Looks like a very nice house.
